After first break, we all got on a double-decker bus which took us to the Gurdwara. When we arrived everybody took off their shoes and put a scarf on before entering the Gurdwara as a sign of respect for the special place. Inside, everybody sat on the carpet. We learned that Sikh's believe that it is importat that everybody sits on the ground in the Gurdwara to show that everybody is equal.
Then the people from the Gurdwara explained some more Sikh beliefs. We learned about the 5Ks which are 5 special items that Sikhs' wear. They are the Kesh (hair), Kanga (comb), Kara (steel bracelet), Kachera (special underwear) and Kirpan (dagger).
Afterwards, we were brought into the langar which is a special kitchen in the Gurdwara. We were invited to sit down and the people brought us food to eat. They explained that all visitors to the Gurdwara are invited to eat and share food.
It was a fantastic learning experience for first class and we had a brilliant day!
