A Throwback to November
In November the children took part in an in-class competition which we called Dragons STEM. The children were challenged to design and make a playground. This linked in with our learning in Geography of play spaces in our locality. However there was a TWIST!! The children had to make the playground inclusive. We had been learning about what it means to be inclusive as part of our Restorative Practice learning in SPHE. The children amazed us with their ideas on how to make a play space not only fun but also inclusive. We had swings and slides at different levels depending on different heights, we had musical tables for children who might like to experiment with sounds while at the playground, ramps for wheelchair access as well as simple "You are Welcome" signs which the children explained was an important message in any shared space to make everyone feel well, welcomed which I'm sure you will agree is in itself a very inclusive message.

The children then had to explain their creations to our Dragons. We were very impressed with how the children clearly explained their ideas and reasoned how their designs were inclusive to the Dragons! What a wonderful way to practice our Oral Language.

After that it was time to unwind and visit our local playground. What a treat to visit a playground with our friends! Well done everyone on another fantastic unit of learning!
