My Body. Our Senses!
The second half of Term 2 saw us learn about our bodies. This involved learning about our senses and how they associated organ works. It was a topic which provided us with lots of hands on learning experiences which we enjoyed very much. Take a look at what we got up to.
The Sense of Smell
First we used our nose (organ) to determine the different scents as can be seen on the tray above. These were:
- Basil
- Mint
- coconut
- Perfume
- coffee
- shampoo
- toothpaste
- a vanilla scented candle
- an apple scented candle
After that it was time to put our noses to the test and see if we could identify each of the scents blindfolded.
We linked in some literacy writing too by writing a tick list of all scents so we could keep score and record our answers.

The Sense of Taste.
Let's see if our tongue was able to identify the different taste receptors of salty, sweet and sour.
The Sense of Sight.
We examined our eyes in a mirror, drew diagrams of our eyes and then labelled the different parts of the eye. We can name and identify
After that we played a fun "Who's Eye is this?" quiz. Can you identify your own eye in the slideshow below?
- The iris
- The pupil
- The Sclera
- The eyebrow and eyelashes.

The Sense of Hearing
We took our learning outside to our outdoor classroom on a beautiful, sunny Thursday afternoon for our learning about the sense of hearing. We listened to the sounds we could hear, drew pictures of the items that made the sounds, recalled if they were natural or man-made and labelled them. Take a look at some of our drawings.
