Winter poems

The children wrote wonderful winter poems and they had fun creating snowflakes before the winter break! Take a look at a few of the acrostic poems below. I think these poems sum up the frightful but fun weather that we had this week! Take a look and maybe you can have a go at writing another winter poem! ⛄🌲

Snowmen playing together
2nd class had great fun creating and learning about perspective in art. We loved bringing the snowmen to life with different faces and making each of them unique with different buttons, hats and scarfs! It took us awhile to finish them all but we are so proud of them and we love admiring them as we pass them in the hallway.

Colourful Autumn

Autumn has really inspired our learning over the past few weeks. We listened to Vivaldi 'Autumn from the Four Seasons' whilst creating beautiful artwork. We wrote fabulous autumn poems and learnt all about 'An Fómhar' as Gaeilge. We even discovered what we knew about trees and found out some new interesting facts to add to our ever growing knowledge bank! When we were discussing about gratitude some of us said we were really thankful and grateful for this beautiful time of year and the nature all around us.

Take a  a look at some of our autumn art below:

Take a look at our Autumn Poems ( More to come). We worked really hard on our poems and were super proud of our them!
We learnt the poem  'Duilleoga Deasa'. Have a go at saying the poem at home! Can you remember the actions? :)

Snailed it!

We had a wonderful chance to study our mollusc friends up close today. James brought in a speedy snail( he climbed up his temporary home at a very fast pace and nearly escaped) and Lilla brought in a slimey shy brown slug to visit our classroom! We really enjoyed having the creatures in our class for a few hours. We could see their tentacles retract in and out we could see how the snail left a slimey trail to help itself move across the surface! We drew and labelled diagrams of our observations.  🔎

We are back in action and loving it!! Wow! What a fantastic first few weeks we have had! Can you believe we are already in week four ?

Since returning to school we have been busy learning some of the new routines such as washing our hands and keeping our distance from friends who are not on our table! We enjoyed a science investigation on the importance of using soap and also learning about place value in maths, ag labhairt as Gaeilge and lots more!

We are just about finished our 'Big Write' and we are very proud of the wonderful writing that we have done on the traditional story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. We loved using puppets to retell the story, creating story maps and we really enjoyed acting the story out in our pods in front of the class. Some of the children were pretty terrifying acting as 'The Big Bad Wolf' and had us all laughing. Take a look at some photos below:
We are really enjoying doing the 'Daily Mile' and getting lots of active time outside also. We are all set up with our outside gear- wellies, raincoats and a change of clothes so no amount of rain clouds will be stopping us getting outside. In fact, we are hoping to get some rain soon to help us find out if we have any snails in our school ground. One of the things we will be learning about this term are  slippery, slimy snails!

We also created our own magnificent monsters! We love the ones on Dojo so much we decided we would create our own. We made them really funky using different kinds of lines! Take a look below:
