Here are some lovely pieces of art we did this week after learning all about symmetry in maths. First we made the background by painting different colours on one side of a page, then folding in in half to make it symmetrical! We then drew half a shape on black paper and cut it out, which is called using positive and negative space in art. Finally, we stuck the shape onto out lovely symmetrical background and this is how they turned out!
As Halloween is approaching 2nd class have been working on some monsters in art. They looked at some famous monsters from Monsters Inc and then carefully designed and created their very own marvellous monsters!

The children in Sarah C's first class have been working so hard on lots of new learning! In December, First Class were working on narrative writing, and each child dictated a story to Sarah C, and then wrote it out themselves in their own little book! The class really enjoyed reading their own stories to each other on pyjama day! In Maths class, First Class were learning about money, and using money to count in 2's and 5's and 10's. The children really enjoyed working together and playing shopkeeper with their own imaginary shops! The children were also learning about pattern and algebra, working together to put all the pieces in the right place of the puzzle. First Class were learning about Length also, and used Maths books and other non-standard measurements such as pencils to measure things in our classroom. The children really enjoyed this. They also enjoyed lining up from shortest to tallest, or tallest to shortest in their pods! The children love Gaeilge in Sarah C's class and they are very good at asking questions and answering them. Here are some photos of Sarah C's First Class enjoying their Golden Time on a Friday! The children have been working on lining up and when they have a Golden Line, they earn steps up the Golden Ladder and every time they get to 10, they earn 5 minutes Golden Time for Friday. There has been a wonderful improvement in the line since term 1, so keep up the Golden good work! Well done!
Visit from our local community Garda, Colm.First Class were really excited to have a visitor from Rathcoole Garda Station today. Garda Colm came to talk to the children about his job, he showed them the various parts of his uniform and explained a little about his job. The children enjoyed asking him questions and he allowed them to look at his walkie-talkie, his Garda badge and his hat! He hopes to visit us again in the new year! We are looking forward to it. Green-School Rep Elections.Happy Hedgehogs!First Class made hedgehogs from clay. They were focusing on shape and texture, using clay tools to mark the clay to make the spikes on their hedgehogs. When the clay was dry, they painted their hedgehogs! Look how great they turned out! Autumn Leaf Hunt and ArtFirst Class went on an Autumn leaf hunt around our school, and used the leaves we collected to make trees in art class. Student Council Election.First Class had their first student council election this term. The children learned about the duties of the student council. They also learned about running for election and they participated in the voting process. Well done to Artas who is our new student council rep! Homes in Our Locality.First Class took a walk through the housing estates near our school to see if we could spot some different kinds of houses. We saw terraced houses, detached houses, semi-detached houses and apartments.
School's Out for Summer!Today marks the end of our time in Senior Infants. What a journey! We started our day with Play Rota, followed by yard and a picnic. We then had a special moment in which we received individual certificates for successfully completing Senior Infants. We cheered and supported one another; we felt so proud of our progress. A Message from Laura:Congratulations to each and every one of you for successfully completing Senior Infants! I could burst with pride, love and joy. Thank you for your commitment to learning over the last two years. We have been a wonderful team. I have no doubt that you will continue to succeed at school. Wishing you every success in First Class. Give it your best shot! Take some time to unwind, to have fun and to create some new memories over the summer break. Lots of love, Laura We All Scream for Ice-cream!Monday, June 21st was a special day for our school. We had a visit from an ice-cream van! After first yard, we made our way out to the front of the school to be greeted by a vibrant, colourful van. We made an orderly line and waited patiently for our turn. We remembered to say "please" and "thank you" when interacting with the ice-cream van worker. He worked hard and fast; we were very impressed! We walked slowly and carefully back to our classroom. We sat down and enjoyed our ice-creams together. Some of us got ice-cream on our faces, noses and in our hair! Check out some photographs of our scrumptious, special day below! |
