We've got that rhythm....
As part of our learning in music we have been learning about rhythm. Our main learning was to be able to name and identify a crotchet and quaver and demonstrate how to clap each music note. To help us achieve this we had to be able understand some new vocabulary and music terms such as rhythm, music notes, crotchet, quaver, compose.
We began our learning by clapping out the rhythm to simple rhymes and poems. This was one of our favourites below and it also proves very useful when we are trying to solve issues around sharing or turn taking.
Next it was time to learn how to clap a crotchet and quaver rhythm. We used the terms cat (crotchet) and kitten (quaver) to help us the clap the correct rhythm. Then it was time to practice writing these music notes and to compose some of our very own rhythms.
As can be seen in the videos some children choose to use the terms cat, kittens to describe their compositions while others used the terms crotchet and quaver. This choice was left completely up to them.
Finally it was time to test out our compositions with some percussion instruments.

I hope you will agree that we have many budding musician amongst us. Well done everyone for your fantastic efforts.
